Local Art Exhibition Draws Record Numbers
The 31st annual arts exhibition held by the Rotary Club of Uralla from the 11th to the 20th of April 2008, attracted record numbers of both artists and visitors to Uralla for this year’s display of works.
The opening event held on Friday the 11th of April saw over 200 people in attendance, with special guests Suzanne Hill from ABC radio formally opening the exhibition, and guest artist for this year’s exhibition Debra Goos displaying a special collection of her works and conducting workshops.
The traditional and defining aspect of the Rotary Club of Uralla’s annual art exhibition has always been that all artworks on display are also available for purchase, and this year differed from no other. The opening night providing a prime opportunity for art lovers from around the region to be the first to purchase some unique additions to their collection.
Art show co-ordinator John Maher reported that literally as soon as the doors were opened this year a number of the 350 artworks on display were already being tagged for sale. Those present on the opening night also noting just how broad a selection of works there were on display this year, and even including hand crafted wood works as well as three dimensional hanging pieces.
Rotary Club of Uralla president Rebecca Wright said that a good numbers of visitors continued to visit the exhibition throughout the duration of its ten day display as well, with no less than 50 people a day stopping in Uralla to visit the exhibition. Saying that the efforts and organisation made by this years art exhibition co-orindator John Maher have been exceptional.
The proceeds raised from the exhibitions go towards community and global support projects undertaken by the Rotary Club of Uralla. With funds from the previous year’s exhibition being used to help projects such as the refurbishment of the new Uralla street stall, the sponsorship of local high school education programs, and the donation of a shelter box (www.shelterboxaustralia.com.au) by the club of Uralla for use in global disaster relief operations.
